鈥淭hey want you to graduate academically, socially, and to be a contributor of society when you get out.鈥

There is a legend about an X marked in white athletic tape on a wrestling mat at 水多多导航 Clarion. It was the 1970s, and Wade Schalles, determined to raise money for cerebral palsy, promised his fraternity brothers he would pin his opponent on that exact spot.

"I had to drag him 20 feet across the mat on his back to put him on the X," Wade laughed. He got the pin 鈥 his 100th 鈥 making him the first collegiate wrestler to reach that milestone.

Wade鈥檚 time at Clarion was defined by this kind of audacious creativity and the supportive community that fostered it. He describes the athletics department of that era as a family of winners led by supportive figures who were as invested in his personal growth as in his athletic dominance.

"You could talk to them like your father," Wade said of his coaches. "They want you to graduate academically, socially, and to be a contributor to society."

Wade took that guidance to heart. Beyond his Hall of Fame wrestling career, he became a coach, an author of five books, and a national sports writer. His drive is rooted in a lesson from his mother that perfectly embodies resiliency: "Don't lose twice." She taught him that while you can't always control the outcome of a match, you have 100% control over how you handle the aftermath.

"If you get down on yourself, you've lost twice," he explained.

Wade's journey from a student-athlete to a legendary figure in the sport showcases the lasting impact of a 水多多导航 education. It is a story of bold ambition supported by a university that treats its students like family, encouraging them to open doors they didn't even know were there.
